Human being and nature

Your friend does not do anything to protect the environment. You have decided to convince him/her how to behave properly. Give him/her some ideas of recycling, saving energy etc.

1. Increases in human population

= dramatic effect on the environment.People are polluting the planet which we live on. Pollution is damage to the air, sea, rivers or land caused by chemicals, waste and harmful gases. Pollutants include toxic waste, pesticides, and fertilizers.

POLLUTION TAKSE MANY FORMS

Water

• water is polluted by factories, they discharge their waste into water.
• oil tankers accidents, which cause oil spills, are also very dangerous for sea animals.
• is polluted from soil

Soil

• becomes polluted by agriculture – fertilizares and pesticides are used.
• by daily waste – daily detergent, washing powder, washing liquid
• waste and rubbish – packing paper, old bottles, cans

Air

• becomes polluted by traffic and industry. They produce exhausts which cause smog.

The greenhouse effect

• is caused by harmful gases known as greenhouse gases = gases produses when we burn fossil fules, especially coal burned in power stations to produced electrocity. Especially CO2 is dangerous, it forms in the atmosphere a layer which works as a glass it means as in the greenhouse the glass lets the sun rays get in but they can’t get out, they are trapped and cause an increase of heat – Global warming – causes ice melting – it results in rising the sea level natural disaster occur more often such as floods, volcanoes, tsunami, earhtquakes.

Acid rain

• acid (especially SO2) from factories are discharged into the air , they are mixed with rain water and causes acid rain. Acid rain falls down and is dangerous for soil, water, plants . It cuases damage of trees, rivers, building. Acid rain makes trees grow slowly, they grow old too quickly and then die.

Ozone layer

• is a layer around the Earth that protects our Earth from ultraviolet light. Freon gases (C2F2C),used in refrigerators and sprays influence the ozone layer in the way that the layer gets thinner and at one place is so thin that we call it an ozone hole. This is really dangerous for us because UV rays can get in and they can cause skin cancer, serious eye damage, blindness, it influences our immunite system.

b)We should protect our nature and enviroment. There are some possible ways how to help our enviroment:

• recycling = the process of using objects and materials they ahve already been used in order to produce new material and objects.We can recycle plastic, glass, paper or tin. There are special containers for each kind of waste
• reducing = we should cut down the amount of :
  • solid waste
  • electricity = to use alternative energy (solar power, wind power, water power
  • hydro power plant, wind power plant, water power plant)
  • water (having shower instead of having bath)
  • we should also reduce the usage of disposable, one-time-use items = don’t buy plastic bags in supermarkets, they tpaper bags or bring bags with you so that you don’t have to buy and use the nwe ones.
  • use recyclabe or recycled materials
  • education
  • unleaded petrol – we should use it in order to protect the aair from pollution
  • ZOO – endangered species of animals and plants (spieces which are in danger of extinction, deforestation is one of the reason of extinction)

3. The most famous organisation – Greenpeace – an international organisation of conservationists which has branches in 39 countires. This organisation don’t accept any money from the industry, government or politicians, they keep their independency. They have made a lot of campaigns for instance against hunting whales, pollution in the North Sea, nuclear power and testing of nuclear weapons and many others issues.They campaigns and protects are something too radical and can be danger as they are able to climb on the roof, to sit in front of big machines and so on, but they do it becasue they really want to stop many enviromental changes and pollution.

Another important environmental group is Friends of the Earth. They have led campaigns against global warming, the destruction of the rain forests.
